Perlis Chapter - Opening Ceremony

16th May marks the beginning of Leadership and Entrepreneurship Development Camp, a collaborative project between Unversiti Malaysia Perlis and the Surat Thani Rajabhat University. The project was officially opened by the Vice Chancellor of UniMAP, the honorable Brig General Dato' Prof Dr. Kamarudin Husin at the Wang Ulu Residential College. Also present was the Dean of PKKK Dr. Hazry Desa and the staff of PKKK. In the photo above, the Vice Chancellor of UniMAP, presenting the LEDC camp's kit to Aj Paisarn of SRU, watched by the ever supportive Dean of PKKK. It was a brief and simple ceremony but everybody realizes the significance of this project to both universities and we are ecstatic at the prospect of this project being a succesful venture. We hope that this will be the beginning of a wonderful relation between SRU-UniMAP.

So, we've found our grandfather and grandmother!

Everyone doing pocho-pocho

It's the second day in Koh Samui, yesterday nothing much happened as we were focusing and brainstorming on our business project. However, the UniMAP students took the pleasure of teaching the Thai students how to do the pocho-pocho dance. We really wish that the SRU students in this program would be able to dance by the end of this project. Fingers crossed.

Today is more fun as we were taken to tour the Island and we also visited a few interesting places. Do u know that Koh Samui is also known as the Island of Coconut? One wonders why but as we went around the island we found the answers in abundant. Coconut trees literally cover the island's landscape.

The first stop was the Grandfather's and Grandmother's rock beach. We wouldn't want to go into the graphic details of the visit but I could safely say it's an unforgettable trip for all of us. Then we went to the Waterfall Temple where we fed the hundreds of sacred Tilapia and Catfish kept in the waterfall pool at the entrance. We took some time there before moving to the Wat Phra Yai or known as the Big Buddha Temple. The temple is majestically situated at one of the bay in Samui and boast a great view of the lovely beaches nearby.

It was almost noon before we head back to the hotel and had lunch. All of us were exhausted by then and decided to rest because we were supposed to continue with the business plan.
It seems that the fun didn't stop during the day as the SRU students planned to surprise ajaarn Annurak as it was her birthday. The planned went smoothly, we gave a cake and organized some performances as well as games to celebrate her. In the end, we had a bulk of job to finish by TOMORROW !!!

Pai Koh Samui !!!

Cruising together

We felt so lucky because the organizing committee of both universities have arranged the camp to be held at the new International Campus of Rajabhat University which is located in Koh Samui. The Island is one of the most beautiful in the region and known as a world class destination.

Right after the opening ceremony, with our stomachs still in rebellious mode, we set out to the jetty which is about an hour from the campus. Next we had to take a ferry to the island. The ferry has three decks, the lowest for transports, the second deck is some sort of a huge lounge and the upper deck is the sun deck. On the last deck there is a Gigantic turtle (seriously gigantic) and a baby turtle that seemed to be loyal companions of the ship. Needless to say of the size, it even has a special lounge for massage. We spent a good hour and a half on the ferry before arriving at the island.

By the time we got there it was already late in the evening and everyone was exhausted. We had our dinner at the International College Hotel, and much to our surprise the room is as equal as any four star hotel and possibly we are the earliest occupants as it hasn't had an official opening yet. Dr Syaharom and ajaarn Anurak gave a briefing on what we are expected to do before we can go to bed.

Off to bed for now, we still have plenty of days to spend here :)

Deputy Vice Chancellor of both universities taking a buggy ride

It was the second day of the Surat Thani chapter, and some of us were suffering from the 'oyster epidemic'. Nonetheless, we braved on for the opening ceremony at the beautiful campus of Surat Thani Rajabhat University.

Prior to our arrival at the university, we had a quick visit to the silk shop in Phum Riang district where they still manufacture the silk clothes in the traditional way. The majority of people in the district are Muslims, and we tasted a little bit of their local delicacies. It was an enriching trip as we get to sample and observe a form of small medium industry in Thailand. I think some of us had an idea already on how we could help them to grow they're business.

The opening was attended by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UniMAP and the Vice President of SRU. It seems that both were very happy to see the good vibes and cooperation among students of both universities. Prior to the opening ceremony we were taken for a short tour around the campus and guess what, they have a 7-Eleven store right in the middle of it.

The opening ceremony was very pleasant, started by speeches from both the Vice Chancellor and Vice President. Next, we were treated by a folk dance performance by a couple of SRU dancers. Anyhow they have saved the best for last as we were served with the eye candy of the day, nice to eat even nicer to see, the sweets made from bean paste and flour known as 'Lukshup'(however they spell it) :)

After all said and done, off to Samui we goOo...!!!!!

Surat Thani Chapter

Oysters on the shell. *apparently not for everyone ;)

Cooking their own food by the beach at Phum Riang District

Cowboys and cowgirls from Unimap, lost in Surat Thani!

Wendy and Pim put up a special 'live' performance on the boat

Who say cowboys don't ride in boat?

The LEDC group at the very moment is undergoing the Surat Thani-SRU chapter. Please do not mistake the cowboy look with the one in Texas, rather u may call us the 'oysterboys' as the above photos were taken during our trip to Sinmana Farm, a local oyster farm. It was the first stop in Surat Thani after the 5 hours trip fro the Malaysia-Thai border of Padang Besar. Oyster became the order of the day and we had a sumptuos lunch at the farm's homestay and restaurant, just off the coast. Later that evening we traveled to a resort which is about an hour journey from the farm.

That night we celebrated one of our friend's (Fern) birthday and barbequed all night long on the beach. The first day has been splendid, and we hope this will last till the end of the project.
